Random parcels of fun Part 2

Well here we go with the rest of my Revlon mysterious freebies, along with the gloss, i also got this wonderful eyeshadow palette. Only recently did i realise that this was a limited edition set! You can still buy this at the moment in stores - and the retail price currently is £12 from Superdrug - however they're having it on sale atm for £8, so that's pretty awesome really considering the price of most Revlon products.

Revlon - Soft On The Eyes Sheer Loose Shadow

Revlon's bio for this product is:

'Encircle eyes with a unique "watercolor"-inspired palette of four ultra-light loose shadows. The formula is sheer yet buildable, to adapt coverage and provide increased color impact as desired. Unique quad with mixing well and brush allows for maximum shade play and customization of color and beauty look. Available in 3 shadow quads.'

I actually received the quad 'Head In The Clouds' which is pictured above, and wow - what an amazing selection of colours - i think i got the most colourful of the three as one is a nudes quad and the other is more based on Autumn.. much darker colours.


Well this was the beauty i received - totally awesome stuff, i'll be honest with you - when i first got it i was a bit confused at how they could do sheer loose powder in a compact (it looked pressed in the palette), then i became scared of opening it - i imagined a ridiculous amount of product flying about! But when i opened it.. such an awesome gliding plastic cover rolls off the pigments when opened, and rolls back when closed - as you can see, there's a little mirror in the lid, and little holes over the pigment top to get just enough pigment on your brush. There's a little contour for mixing and foiling, and the brush that came with it - small but so soft and doesn't shed.. i'd buy this just for the brush really - so wonderful!

The only issue is the packaging.. it reminds me of the '80's... really.. meh green for the front with white plain writing? And a splooge in the corner to make it look more high end? Stop, what are you DOING Revlon?? The product is perfection.. if it didn't have this front on the packaging. The actual wearability of these products are endless.. so summery, you can foil them in the contour tray, or create new shades altogether! When applied dry - they're a beautiful soft bunch of colours.. and wet they're so wild and in your FACE! The minerals aren't milled quite as fine as TSS pigments and i will never change my mineral products to Revlon - or any other company - as those pigments are the best you can find. But this is better than other companies out there.. so well done Revlon :P. 9/10

Random parcels of fun

As the title says.. yesterday i received my expected parcel from E.l.f, but somehow.. i got this little surprise!
Yeah, weird right? Well that's what i thought.. i have no idea where this came from, the parcel had my name and address handwritten on it, but with the Revlon stamp so.. did i win a competition i forgot about? Who knows, so here's some pics and reviews etc..

First things first - i got three extremely awesome products. So i'll go in simple order.

NEW! Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze
Well here's the product on the site (above) and here's the actual product i recieved (below), not a bad looking product - infact it looks really gorgeous.. the packaging is just yum! But the lid made me think there was something in it, i don't know why lol!


Here's a good bio of the product from the Revlon site:

Well, i got the shade in Neverending Nude, and this is what the colour is meant to look like, as opposed to the actual swatch.


As you can see.. nothing alike!! I would seriously be so pissed off if i bought this thinking that mauve colour was what i was expecting.. there is nothing wrong with the actual formula.. the product itself is nice - a bit thick - but nice! However this is a completely silly difference in colour - what i got was something more sandy/orangey than mauvey. Oh well.. the brush is your standard gloss brush, and the formula is thick, non sticky and lasts for ages! But the colour is just such a disappointment. Not sure about the retail price currently, as this is a new product that hasn't been added to any online drugstore such as boots. Hopefully this product will be put up in the next few weeks as the actual product is great - just not loving the colour! 8/10

Review: E.L.F Brightening Eye Color - Drama

More E.L.F reviews lol! Hopefully i'll get to an avon review as well as some other brand this weekend.. enjoy!

Packaging: Grr.. it's quite cheaply made, as i expect for the price.. but it makes me feel like it came from a kids makeup set.. the applicator is very soft and flimsy for a sponge applicator.. but the lid hasn't broken off. White on the bottom, clear lid with silverish writing, makes it difficult for me to see what the heck it says on it. The Palette name is on a little tiny sticker on the bottom, in teeny weeny writing, forgivable for the smaller products. Not for this big assed product. Boo.

Shade/s: Starts off with a white - slightly off looking when applied.. not the best white in the world, but it's decent enough for under the brow bone or on the tearduct *sigh*. Then there's a pale grey with a little bit of silver sparkle, quite pretty for it being such a dull colour, i wouldn't call it silver so don't go thinking it's that either. Then it's followed by a medium grey with a hint of silver shimmer, quite nice really, definately one of my favourite shades. Finally there's a black - not really magical and not all that pigmented enough for it to be a rich black - quite a lot of layers are needed for this colour. Good enough for a dark smokey eye - and good enough for it to be a travelling staple.

Texture: The white is very matte, not a shimmer like i was hoping it to be.. and you need quite a few layers for this unfortunately, so i hate using this much, but it's needed for a smokey eye look.. grr! The pale grey is quite soft and blendable and the glitter isn't too in your face or bitty, so the texture is really quite nice, expecially when foiled. The medium grey is quite nice also.. soft, blendable and pigmented, and the slight shimmer is quite professional and classy, so i love this one! The matte black is.. crud to say the least.. but it's needed for me. It takes quite a lot of layers to be able to use this properly, and a lot of blending is needed, when foiled it turns a dark grey unless again, a lot of product is used.

Price: For a staple..ish product, £1.50 is pretty decent, however i can tell it's that price by both the packaging and the textures of two of the shades.. so it's not really a deal. Meh, don't get at me, it gets a good enough score for what it actually is.

Wearability: I wouldn't wear this a lot due to the white and black, and how irritating it is.. but as a general basic palette that can be used as a staple, its wearable for the day or night. The greys make it daytime friendly and the black can vamp it up quickly for night. Soo i can't complain, no smudging or creasing either. Plus it stays put until it's washed off so ok, full marks.

E.L.F Featherproof Moisturising Lip Liner - Mauve Luxe

I know, large long image right there lol. Anyway, hope everyone is doing alright out there in cheap makeup land. Head on over to my favourite site at the moment to check out the new summer limited edition with a magical theme. I endorse it fully. Now onto the generic review!

Packaging: Can't say much.. it came shrink-wrapped originally, which is always annoying.. but anyway, thats not the point. It's a pencil. The lid stays on firmly and is see through, so thats handy if you dont have the time to go around reading the labels. The silver embossed writing on the side of the pencil is a little annoying as in some lights it can be difficult to see, but i prefer it to black plain writing. Basically i prefer the asthetics side to it. Came with a white pencil sharpener, so thats cute.

Shade/s: Mauve Luxe - odd name, but such a pretty colour. Originally i wasn't so sure.. im not the type of person to go big on mauve for the lips.. but i bought it anyway for the sake of trying new things. I'm glad i tried it. Quite natural, but adds a lovely tint to the lips. Most women with any skin tone should buy this as it's not as mauve as it looks.

Texture: Very smooth texture to this, not chunky and cheap. Very good quality for what it is, gives a matte finish to the lips, making it very appealing to most people. Big gripe is that it says extremely clearly on the label that it's MOISTURISING. What? How can a lip pencil be moisturising? Is it a cream?? No. Sorry, it's your average lip liner.. not creamy, not magic. Don't say something does something that it can't possibly do. Minus points for this flaw!

Price: £1.50 for a lip liner isn't bad.. but i'll be honest, i can get the same sort of thing off ebay for the same price. However, it's still good value for what it is.. so i can't complain. Especially since it came with a brilliant sharpener that isn't cheapy cheap and hasn't broken yet!

Wearability: Now it says on the label that it's featherproof - which it is. I'm surprised. I thought i'd be lied to twice on this label.. but i was wrong. It lasted all day. No smudging, no irritations. The colour is natural and gorgeous for anytime. You can't go wrong with buying this product to be honest.

Avon Rosy Lips Tin - Violet Bloom Review

The Rosy Lips Tins are part of Colortrend's Spring/Summer 2008 Collection. I actually bought the whole collection on it's immediate release, so i'll again gradually be working my way through, as it's a good collection to check out for bright colours.

Packaging: As in the description, the rosy lips tins are.. actually in tins. Not very large tins really, a couple of inches or so in length, however there's quite a lot of product inside, making it a really good deal. The lid slides off, but isn't loose or too stiff, making it a really sturdy product. The design on the front is super cute, with the collections motif of a small flower on the front with the details of the product along the side and the colour name is on a sticker on the back. Really sturdy stuff, great for travel, handbags.. everywhere, anytime i think the idea for this is. Clever considering they were thinking of the women that would be going on holiday at this time.

Shade/s: Violet bloom is a rich, vivid metallic purple with a hint of pink. Has beautiful little tiny silver/purple sparkles in, making this so lush on the lips. It's not a versatile colour, good for anywhere but work lol, but i'm sure most women would try it with this beauty. Definately my favourite shade of the bunch.

Texture: Goopy. Extremely soft, don't go thinking this is a very hard lipstick, because it sure as hell isn't. I mean the pigmentation is so strong, most people would call this a lipstick, but the consistency is more a thick gloss. Not a bad thing, but it isn't hair proof, extremely sticky. That's the only problem with this really, but for me that's a big thing if i'm going out for a while.

Price: Very good value, got this around £1.50 in a sale, whereas normally it's about £3.50. The amount of product you actually get is worth the retail price, however the texture isn't for everyone so i'd try and get it in the sales if you can.

Wearability: Here's the thing. The shade is gorgeous, but not something you could reach for most mornings. The consistency isn't all day proof (or if you're out in bad weather, 10 minutes proof) and you need a lip brush to apply this every time. You CANNOT use your fingers for hygiene and product life reasons (aka it will go everywhere). So this means that the only reason you will wear this often is if your high maintenance, always have loads of time to put the slap on, and don't go anywhere. Buy it for the colour and the novelty.. and perhaps if you like the texture. Nothing more.

Review E.L.F All Over Color Stick - Fair

Packaging: The packaging is a cute little white tube with a nice clear lid and a twist bottom, to help push the product up or down. Problem is the size of the product - it was quite small.. not too small for the price, but smaller than what i expected. Cheap though, so i'll probably top up when i run out.

Shade/s: Fair is the palest colour they have, and at first i thought it would be too orange, but after swatching and blending, i actually find it adapts to my skin tone. Covers beautifully over red areas, neutralising extremely well.

Texture: Best texture for a foundation/concealer ever. Creamy, thick but not cloggy. Can apply with a brush or fingers. Doesn't dry up, or make me greasy. Extremely good quality and coverage. One layer of this = 4 layers of most other brands, but with the same, if not better consistency and soft look.

Price: Cheap.. cheap.. cheap. £1.50. You could buy four of these and it would still be cheaper than most high street brands. Excellent.

Wearability: I can wear all day long, no grease, smudgyness, dryness, itching.. perfect. Great for picture taking too - neutralises and makes you look gorgeous without looking 'made up'. Small amount of product only needed to achieve that flawless look. Perfect and blendable.

Review: E.L.F All Over Color Stick - Pink Lemonade

Thought i'd do what i'd promised and slowly review bits from my e.l.f order the other week. Anyway, sorry this post is a bit late, but i slept a lot of yesterday and i wanted to give a coherent review of sorts lol.

Packaging: The packaging is a cute little white tube with a nice clear lid (appreciate this highly, definately helps on busy mornings) and a twist bottom, to help push the product up or down. Problem is the size of the product - it was quite small.. not too small for the price, but smaller than what i expected. However, after swatching, i can't imagine going through this like lightning.

Shade/s: A very soft, pretty pink with a sheer shimmer to it and when blended well gives a natural radiant flush. I've seen various reviews of the colour, and i really think that the people applying this product must have been lathering the stuff on to give the 'tacky' colour. Sorry but most products and shades only get tacky when the person can't apply it properly.

Texture: Smooth and creamy, not goopy and thin. Worth the value, you only need a small amount of product to give a gorgeous wash of colour. Doesn't crease, or cake skin, however won't leave you wondering where you put the product because it never shows up. The only problem is that -as with most cream products- needs quite a bit of blending if used on face or eyes, without the blending, you'd look tarty to say the least.

Wearability: You can use this anywhere. I've tried and it works. On the eyes, it makes a perfect base under pink and peach eye looks, lips it gives a pretty shimmy flush (if used lightly) and on the face it's just perfect. As it happens, i store this with my face stuff as i tend to use this more for a light blush and highlight, rather than anywhere else. I'm also aware that other people with this product tend to use this on the face.. so expect this beauty to go on your cheeks more than most.

Review: Avon Cynthia Rowley Eyeshadow Quad - Plum Orchid

Well, I'd been eyeing up this for a while, always been on my wishlist, but was constantly getting pushed back every order. So i said enough, it will be mine dammit!! And so it was mine, came with my last order a week and a bit ago, and it's quite a doosy.

Packaging: Solid, sturdy, presentable. Cynthia Rowleys design on the front of the compact is a gorgeous touch, showing how unique this is. Even the actual shape of the front isnt and rounded as the regular quad's.. which is good, however i prefer this shape WAY more than the irritating rounded lid where it's difficult to hold. A good clean large mirror on the inside, and a small duo ended sponge applicator, makes this worth the money i spent.

Shade/s: The first is quite a pale yellow gold with slight gold sparkle to it - would need foiling for a greater depth of colour.. but still exquisite. The second is a taupe/chestnut brown.. don't really rate so much, it's a matte so it's not magical. The third is a more dark woody brown, not woody enough to be interesting though, just a bland matte brown really. However, the final colour is a rich plummy purple, which makes the quad interesting with the gold to be honest. Definately a versatile colour - line, use for smokey eyes, a toned down work look.. brilliant.

Texture: Mostly mattes and one slight sparkly. So i guess the textures aren't as varied as i hoped.. but the softness of the mattes isn't terrible - you can blend them well enough. If you prefer mattes for your look then this would be perfect. For me though, its a meh.

Price: Normally £7 individually, but i got this is a two items for £8 deal, so it only cost me £4. Deal i say!

Wearability: No creasing with these products, so thats a bonus. Hard to shift unless with a cosmetic applicator or with some cleanser. Versatile as i previously stated, however you won't beable to achieve a light look. High scores from me.
